Black Thought: Morgan Freeman on Black History Month

I agree with Morgan Freeman and his stance on Black History Month. Please watch this, it is very short. Let me know how you feel about this by leaving a comment. Peace.

I get what's he's saying, which is: Treat everyone equally. Don't single them out based on color, ethnicity, or nationality. So there wouldn't be a need for "Black History Month" because it'd all be OUR History...

BUT that only works in theory. In practice, color is one of the FIRST things we see when we look @ someone. We teach our kids colors before they can read. And that's before they start learning what those colors mean. So Morgan's approach is a bit naive and almost too simplistic.

Even in ethnic communities where we have family & friends that might range from Irish pale to African dark we have an acute awareness of complexion, because as humans we're visually oriented. Beyond that, you've got cultural, linguistic, and religious differences after you get over skin color. I think it'd be harder to IGNORE all of that than it is to pay attention and accept it.
