Skillz-Rap Up 2008

Skillz comes through with the Rap-Up 2008 like clockwork. Is it just me or does it seem like he nails every single moment in mainstream hip hop? The homie touches everything from Young Buck's taped convo to 50 picking on Rocsi to R. Kelly's acquittal to Sarah Palin standing on her porch looking for Russia. Peep it for yourself. Oh yeah he said, "Its time for a change/ So don't go tryin' to turn the inauguration into a All-Star Game"

Got Next?

Drake a.k.a "Wheelchair Jimmy" from the Canadian drama Degrassi is an extremely talented dude. He sings but even more impressive is the way he, in my best Dylan from Da Band voice, "Spits hot fire." He had a mixtape drop back at the end of '07 called "Comeback Season" that was bananas. His new joint "Heartbreak Drake" is a collection of greatest hits and new leaked songs=crack too. He is signed to Interscope. I believe he is going to make a lot of noise. Be on the lookout for him.
Wale (pronounced "wah-lay") out of D.C. is ill. He is one of the most potent lyricists to touch a mic. He has a casual swagger and he is extremely witty. His mixtape, "The Mixtape About Nothing" is easily Top 5 mixtapes of 2008. He uses the show Seinfeld as a canvas and he paints a landscape filled with dope lyrics. It is a must hear tape. He will breathe new life into the game...Hip Hop is alive and well with songs like this:Incredible...
The next dude I want to see make noise in '09 is Meek Mill. Meek is from Philly and he dumbs out when he goes in, seriously. Mill was signed to T.I.'s Grand Hustle label in '08. I have been listening to him since I came across a video on You Tube a few years back. It was the intensity and the pure grizzly in the way he was killing the track that made me take notice. A lot of rappers dont have that anymore. You can peep www.datpiff.com and search his Flamers mixtape. It hasn't left my mp3 player yet and it has been in for a minute. I am sure he has something new out but I'm still banging this one! He makes real songs which is somewhat of a departure from what a lot of people say about Philly artists. I beg to differ though. I have more Philly artists to be posted though. Right now I feel like Meek got next from the City of Brotherly Love. It is a powder keg of talent up there ready to blow. Can Meek set the national audience ablaze? Most certainly.
I am waiting to see what '09 holds for hip hop. First up is one of the most swagged out dudes in the game right now, Curren$y. Unless you have been under a rock you have heard this dude's name if not you need to check your pulse. He does him which is so different for a lot of rap artist. It is hard to maintain a lie so the homie is doing the right thing plus it makes his material fresher. When bustin' guns and sellin' dope has become the norm, this guy talks about real shit that he does. He replaces head bustin and wig splittin' with talks about popular culture and being fly amongst other things. His flow and wordplay are incredible and his mixtapes were on fire all year long. Peep this...
