Fresh Air in the Game

Hip hop has always been in my heart. From the days of Run-DMC to the Fat Boys all the way to the glory days of the 90s, I have been an uber fan. Back then rappers were able to be themselves and rap about whatever they wanted to. You could hear A Tribe Called Quest and The Geto Boys being spun on the same radio show AND you would be jamming to both tracks. There were no iPods...I had a Sony Walkman and a book bag full of tapes. People also used to be amped when we read the Source to find out what was dropping and when. Now that hiphop is so commercialized, creativity has seemed to take a backseat to "formual music". I classify formula music as rapper+gold chains+expensive car+big booties in the videos+guns=$$$$.

Creativity and being yourself has taken a nosedive. Please dont fret though, there are some people holding the fort down. However there are a few shining stars that are on the radar.

Right now Kid Cudi can do no wrong. Unless you live under a rock, you have heard Cudi's track "Day and Night". This is a rather dark and sparse song that made it's way to the mainstream audience with a bang. As soon as the beat drops my 3 your old starts singing the hook! Cudi's new track featuring Kanye West and Common, "Make Her Say", is also killing the radio. I really like his tracks "Daps and Pounds" and "Cleveland is the Reason". Dude is grinding and he is rolling with G.O.O.D Music so his creativity should be unbridled. Cudi is doing his own thing in his own lane and for him I think the best is yet to come. The Day and Night video was one of if not the freshest rap videos I have seen in a very very long time. Cudi has a huge following on the web and I believe the homie should be able to achieve commercial success as well.

If you are a fan of the site you also know that I am a big time Curren$y fan. Spitta has been in it for a minute and he has an extremely loyal fan base. He can rap over any beat and he is one of the hardest working dudes out here doing it. He was dropping mixtapes like girls be droppin' babies, like the late great O.D.B would say, back in '08 and he had the Internet was going nuts. I for one, was one of those people waiting for the next tape to hit datpiff. Spitta has that laid back flow and he raps about stuff he does which is what made me a fan. On one of his tracks he said how one of his first raps was pages "full of b.s. and lies/about me killin' people and flippin' pies/ but when I got by myself /I found myself /and realized that if I was a child in these times /I wouldn't want to follow in the steps of these guys..". How is that for keeping it real...Way realer than your average rapper/gangster/killer. Spitta cooled his guns with the mixtapes and focused on his magnum opus was the aptly title, This Aint no Mixtape. This album was a digital download release that saw rave reviews from critics and fans alike. Go to datpiff.com and get in touch with your inner chill by listening to some Spitta. Or better yet click the link and cop that album. F.S. Jets where haven't we been yet?

These are just the first two that came to mind but more are soon to follow. Peace!

Fabolous ft Jay-Z-Money Goes, Honey Stays

Aint too much to say about this one other than....FIRE! Nice video dope song from two of BK's finest. Hov only handles the hook on this one but it is enough to be felt. I like this type of video..It has a plot and not just videos hoes shakin ass and showing titties. Smell me?

OJ Da Juiceman-Bouldercrest Shawty

Papoose- I Just Want the Paper

HOT SHIT from Papoose Pa Poose...Great use of the Biggie sample from his song "Dead Wrong". I hope shit works out for Pap because dude is raw and has been on his grizzly for a while. After he blessed us with his verse from Busta Rhyme's "Touch It" remix, I thought we would see an lp. Well, I guess the industry somehow screwed him over because that has yet to be released. Doesnt matter though, Pap will come out on top, no doubt.
